We have evaluated the current status and challenges related to polio eradication efforts in the region.
Key components of the Polio Eradication Assessment included:
- Ministry of Public Health Meeting: We held a meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Public Health to discuss polio eradication strategies, progress, and challenges. This collaboration was essential for aligning efforts and understanding the government’s role in the initiative.
- Ministry of Public Health Interview: We conducted interviews with officials from the Ministry of Public Health to gather firsthand information on the current state of polio eradication programs, vaccination campaigns, and community outreach efforts.
400 cases in Nigeria (border with Cameroon), 5 cases in Cameroon. All cases are vaccine-derived poliovirus, no wild polio.
Far North Region, 5 cases of vaccine-derived poliovirus, including 1 environmental sampling case.
Lake Chad and Far North Region, including 32 districts, are high-risk areas.
Two rounds of vaccination planned for November and December. Vaccination is running late due to a lack of vaccines.
